We designed a new type of compass called Full Moon. Unlike a normal compass can only draws circles with the pencil fixed on it, Full Moon allows users to install different types of pen to draw a circle.

We designed a new type of compass called Full Moon. Unlike a normal compass can only draws circles with the pencil fixed on it, Full Moon allows users to install different types of pen to draw a circle.

Background

We found that although compass is used frequently when we are drafting and sketching, many students considered it is not easy to draw perfect circles by a normal compass. However, we still use it because there are no better choices to draw circles.

To make sketching process more efficient and convenient, we decided to design a new type of compass:

  1. Won’t hurt papers or leave any trace on papers
  2. No need for additional tools
  3. Draw circles smoothly and easily
  4. Can be equipped with different pens or pencils

Future Improvement

  • Modify the way of holding the pen to make the pen more stable while revolving the disk.
  • Make the mark more obvious and closer to the paper.
  • Try with more different types of pens and papers.
  • Find some left-handed subjects to try.
